Ottofy Flirts with No-No
Compton, CA- Sophomore RHP Chase Ottofy was 6 outs away from throwing a no-hitter Saturday night under the lights at Compton College's RBI Academy field. Ottofy faced some adversity in the first after he hit a batter with 2 outs. A passed ball move the runner to second, Compton's clean up hitter, Alexandro Rodriguez, lined a full count slider that was tracked down by Barstow Center-Fielder Lucky Martinez.
Barstow Head Coach Bryan King said, "They only hit 3 or 4 balls well all night, luckily they were hit right at us"
With a 2 run lead going into the bottom of the 8th Compton pinch hitter Billy Sanchez hit an 0-1 seeing eye single through the right side to break up Ottofy's no-hit bid.
King said, "Chase was dominate tonight, he had all three pitches working and his Fastball was electric."
The Viking's offense was led by Freshman Judah Wilbur who had three hits on the night including a Double. The Vikings scratched across runs in the 3rd and 4th inning and added two more in the top of the 9th.
On the night, Ottofy's piching line was 9 innings pitched, 0 walks, 13 Strike outs, 1 hit allowed and zero runs. The complete game shutout was the first by a Viking pitcher since Austin Crank accomplished the feat in 2015.
Chase Ottofy is currently tied for 2nd in the entire state of California with 23 strike outs.
