Vikings Rebound and Take Game 2
Vikings Rebound and take Game 2 of the Double-Header
The Vikings softball team has begun the 2016 Foothill Conference Season 2-2 - The ladies this past Saturday did not fair well against 2015 1st round play-off member San Bernardino Valley. Pitching into 40 mph wind gusts and trying to catch balls with the weather appeared to bother the home team rather than the visitors. The Vikings were torched 16-2 in five innings and the weather only sustained for game 2. However Barstow High School grad Alexis York was outstanding for three solid innings to start game 2 allowing 0 hits in those three innings. Amelia McCaffrey came into the game in the 4th inning and closed out the huge victory for the Vikings. The win did not come easy as the Vikings were trailing 8-5 going into the 5th inning. However, the Vikings pulled their offense together and exploded for 7 runs on 8 hits in their final two at bats. The Vikings have begun conference play with wins over two former play-off teams and look forward to playing undefeated Chaffey in their next Conference game. The Vikings are currently tied for second place with Rio Hondo and College of the Desert. The game 2 victory was instrumental in keeping the Vikings one game ahead of San Bernardino Valley in the tight Conference race. Amelia McCaffrey went 2-4 at the plate with a double and a triple while Nicole Vega was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. The Vikings play next at LA Harbor - 12:00 and 2:00 PM start times for the double-header - Saturday March 19th.
