Vikings Shock 1st Place Chaffey
On Friday March 25th, The Vikings Softball team upset 1st place Chaffey with a 5-4 victory in game 1 of a double-header. Chaffey came into the contest with a 6-0 Foothill Conference record. This is Chaffey's 1st Conference loss of the season and it keeps the Vikings right in the hunt for the still very much alive Conference title. Amelia McCaffrey pitched 7 innings scattering 8 hits and allowing 0 earned runs - while Barstow's Marissa Dado went 2-3 at the plate with a double - run scored - and 4 RBI's. Game two was a closely fought contest for five innings - Catcher Alicia Klaudt hit a solo home run to tie the game at one a piece. It was a defensive struggle and dead locked at one a piece going into the fifth inning when the Vikings allowed 8 runs and were never able to recover. Vikings pitcher Amelia McCaffrey was injured in the 3rd inning and will be out at least one week. The Vikings move to 3-3 in Conference play with wins over 1st place Chaffey and 2nd place Rio Hondo. The Vikings will now begin a 3 game series against rival Victor Valley that begins on Wednesday March 30th. Game 1 will take place Wednesday at home - game time is 3:00 PM. The Vikings will play the final two games versus Victor Valley on the road.
