Barstow softball scores 25 runs in splitting games with Coyotes
RIDGECREST - The Barstow softball team split games with Cerro Coso on Friday.
The Vikings dropped the first game 12-9, but rallied to win the second game 16-4. Despite the offensive performance, errors, walks and hit batters in the first game doomed the Vikings.
Lindsey Crane suffered the loss in the first game as she was knocked out of the game in the second inning. The Coyotes scored seven times in the inning and erased a 3-0 deficit into a 9-3 lead. Jazmine Landis helped Barstow at the plate with a three run pinch hit double. Barstow cut the lead to 9-8 in the fifth inning, but the bats went silent down the stretch.
Melissa Galindo had three hits and two stolen bases in the first game. Alicia Klaudt reached base four times. Maggie Crossley had two hits, Amelia Crossley had two hits and two RBI. Maggie Crossley pitched solid in relief of Crane. Julie Shipley added a two-run double.
The second game was a reversal of the first. Crane started and went a complete game scattering six hits. Klaudt highlighted the offense with a grand slam. Galindo, Daisha Mitchell and Landis added two hits. The Vikings are now 4-4 on the season and host Taft on Thursday starting at noon.
"I was pleased with how resilient we were by coming back in the second game," said coach Tim Syrek. "We were sloppy in the first game on defense and running the bases. The second game the ladies really pulled it together."
