Crossley and Crane hurl 2-hitter
Vikings beat Taft, 7-2, fall in second game 15-8
BARSTOW - Maggie Crossley and Lindsey Crane combined on a 2-hitter leading the Barstow Community College softball team to a 7-2 win over Taft on Thursday.
The Vikings didn't answer the call in the second game falling, 15-8, behind sloppy defense.
In the opener, Crossley pitched into the fifth inning allowing one hit and one run. She loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, when Crane came in induced an inning ending ground out to second.
Taft opened the scoring with a run in the first inning. The Vikings answered when Alicia Klaudt scored on an error. Amy Crossley roped a single to plate Anne Marie Hernandez. Barstow added to the lead in the fourth inning when DaJanay Banks scored on an RBI ground out by Melissa Galindo. Barstow scored three more runs in the fifth inning led by Shyanne Dase's two run bloop single. Julie Shipley also had an RBI in the inning. Maggie Crossley singled to lead off the sixth inning and scored on a sac fly by Anne Marie Hernandez.
The nightcap was filled with miscues on defense. Five passed balls and five errors aided the Taft offense.
Crane pitched the first five innings and allowed 10 runs.
On offense, Melissa Galindo had three hits, while Envy Arroyo and Alicia Klaudt each scored two runs. Julie Shipley's two-run single in the third inning tied the game at 6-6. Taft scored seven runs in the last three innings - including three home runs - to put the game away.
"We just need to be more consistent," said coach Tim Syrek. "We really were pleased with the entirety on the first game. We had some clutch hits and defensive plays. Game two just wasn't how we want to play. We need to play for each other and some need to be reminded of that fact."
