Double Trouble
Hernandez racks up 10 extra base hits
BARSTOW - Anne Marie Hernandez has found her power stroke.
The Barstow Community College freshman has stroked 10 extra base hits through the first 10 games of the season. The shortstop has helped the Vikings off to a 5-5 record.
"She has such quick hands and power," said coach Tim Syrek. "Anne Marie is short to the ball and the ball just jumps off her bat."
Hernandez has nine doubles and leads the Vikings with 16 RBI. She's batting .563 on the season and also has a grand slam. Hernandez has scored 10 runs and has been solid on defense.
"She's done such a good job driving in runs for us," Syrek said. "When we need a big hit she delivers."
Hernandez also plays basketball for the Vikings. She helped the basketball team to a 9-15 record and averaged 10.2 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. She was second on the team in scoring and led the team in rebounding.
"She is just a gifted athlete and plays with energy and enthusiasm," Syrek said. "She's very coachable and she loves her teammates. She just loves to compete."
The Vikings will be home on Thursday at 2:30 against LA Mission.
