BARSTOW - The Barstow Vikings had six errors leading to 11 unearned runs Tuesday losing to conference rival Citrus, 17-5.

Citrus scored six runs in the first inning - all after two outs were recorded. They added eight runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.

Alicia Klaudt had three hits, while Anne Marie Hernandez blasted her third home run of the season. Daisha Mitchell had two hits, while Julie Shipley added two hits and two RBI.

Maggie Crossley took the loss in the game and didn't make it out of the third inning. Melissa Galindo finished the game on the mound.

"Even though we got behind early I was proud of the fact there is no quit in this team," said coach Tim Syrek. "I really was pleased with how Melissa threw for her first time on the mound. The players really responded to her on the mound."

Galindo added a long double and Lindsey Crane added a hit.

Barstow's game on Wednesday has already been cancelled due to rain in the LA area. The Vikings were scheduled to play Glendale.

"We need to work on teamwork and being great teammates," Syrek said. "We want to get right back to work."
