BARSTOW - The Barstow Vikings softball team is looking to build on the 2018 season.
After not feilding a team in 2017, the Vikings are hoping that the success of 2018 and a good core of returning players will be enough to propel Barstow into the conference championship race.
"The goal is always to win the conference," said coach Tim Syrek. "If we continue to work hard from the fall season and stay healthy we believe we can be in the mix at the end."
Barstow has two all conference players returning in Annemarie Hernandez and Daisha Mitchell.
"They were both strong at the plate," Syrek added. "We need to be consistent on defense."
Captains are Envy Arroyo, Melissa Galindo and Alysia Sanchez.
"All three lead by example and set the tone," he added. "We are looking forward to a strong team dynamic this year."
Barstow opens the season at the Glendale Invitational January 25 and 26.
