Sluggish Vikings rally to knock off Glendale
BARSTOW - The Glendale softball team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the second inning.
However, there was no panic in Barstow on Thursday. The Vikings scored five runs in the second inning and rallied to mercy the visitors, 16-8.
Melissa Galindo earned the win in the circle and also had two doubles and four RBI. Envy Arroyo added two hits and four RBI, while Inayalena Paopao scored twice and added three RBI.
"We came out a little sluggish and Glendale jumped all over our lackidaisical play," said coach Tim Syrek. "We were sloppy on defense and on the bases and Glendale started out strong. I was really pleased there was no panic and we worked our way back into the game."
Annemarie Hernandez had a two-run double and then Galindo followed with a double in the fifth inning to give Barstow the lead.
"We played the final few innings so much better," Syrek said. "We had some nice plays on defense from our outfield the last couple of innings that made a difference. We still have room to grow on our fielding, but the effort is good."
Barstow improves to 7-6 on the season and 2-2 in CCCAA play. The Vikings will play at Santa Monica on Saturday.
