Barstow wins turf war with Victor Valley
BARSTOW - The Barstow Vikings made quick work of their rivals on Tuesday beating Victor Valley in five innings, 12-2.
Sophomore Melissa Galindo earned the win allowing an earned run in five innings on the mound. She also led off the Vikings offense with a double in the first inning.
Barstow scored five runs in the first inning and added two more in the second and three in the third. The only blemish against the Barstow defense came in the fourth inning when an error in right field allowed the Rams to plate a pair of runs. Barstow answered right back with two runs.
Galindo, Cheyenne Porcella, Alyssa Avalos, Diasha Mitchell and Lolo Donovan all scored two runs in the win. Avalos, Annemarie Hernandez and Donovan all added two RBI.
"We had a lot of energy and we brought it from the first pitch," said coach Tim Syrek. "We set the tone in the first inning and it carried. We executed our bunts and used our speed the way we needed to."
Barstow will play Saturday at Compton. The win gives Barstow a 10-15 record, matching the win total from 2018.
