Vikings rout Porterville
Barstow, Ca- The Barstow Baseball team toppled the Porterville Pirates 14-4 at Dale Fries Field on the BCC campus. The vikings notched 21 hits on the day and improved their 2017 home record to 3-0.
The Vikings started the game with a bang including 3 consecutive hits from Kayln Kimmel, Dustin McNicholl and a 2 RBI dobule off the bat of Caleb Squire that went over the head of the center fielder. The vikings would scroe 4 total in the bottom of the first.
The Pirates tied the score at 4 in the top of the fifth when Porterville 1st basemen, Dane Wasden, hit a 2-run home run out to right field. The home run was his second of the day but the final runs the Pirates would score on the day.
The Vikings pushed one run across in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. The Vikings then pulled away in the 7th inning scoring 7 runs and then adding 2 more in the 8th.
Sophomore Osvaldo Escobar picked up the win for the Vikings and himproved his 2017 record to 2-0. Sophomore Kayln Kimmel notched 5 hits on the day including an RBI tripple.
The 21 Vikings hits improved the already robust team batting average to .343 which is good enough for 2nd in the entire state. The Vikings also rank in the top 10 in virtually every offensive statistic.
