Vikings Reach 10 Wins Before Conference Play

The 2019 Vikings season has started off with the most wins prior to conference play (10) in over five seasons.

The Vikings have been lead by pitching and defense while also having a highly poweed offense. Through 18 games the Vikings pitchings staff has comined for a 5.76 ERA, while striking out 99 batters. Sophomore Jason Katz has lead the staff with 8 appearance, innings pitched (33), while boasting a 4.5 ERA, with 21 K and only 6 walks. Katz is 2-1 with 1 complete game that also earned him Southern California Pitcher of the Week Honors. Freshman Jorge Medrano is 2nd on the team in innings pitched with 29. Medrano has a 3.41 ERA. Freshman Gredan Velasquez and Pablo Montante have combined for 8 starts and 5 wins. Bryce Hodges and Jake Kissell have shown to be dependable arms out of the pen, with 5 appearances a piece and combined 18.2 IP, the two have helped bridge the innings to sophomore closer Nyk Crumrine. Crumrine has 5 appearances, with 3 saves and a 0.00 ERA.

The Vikings offense has been lead by returning All So Cal honoree Judah Wilbur, who is currently hitting .343, with 21 runs scored 5 2B, 1 3B, and 8 HR. Wilbur is tied for the team lead in RBI with 16 and was named So Cal Player of the week in week two of the season. Freshman Evan Kerlin has been a force in the middle of the order hitting .343 and 16 RBI. Nick Caswell is also off to a solid start hitting .339, 14 Runs scored, 11 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Sophomoe Jathan Sibal has been a spark in the leadoff spot, hitting .295 with a .392 OBP. The Vikings catchers Adrian Trujillo and Richard Esquivel have been very productive at the plate as well with both of them hitting for a high average and combining for 22 runs scored and 21 RBI.

The Vikings continue to dominate defense with a .973 fielding percentage.
