The sweet sounds of softball returned to Barstow Community College Friday.
After not fielding a team in 2017, the Vikings powered to a pair of victories over Cerro Coso in front of 75 fans.
Barstow earned a mercy win in the first game with a final score of 19-11. The Vikings also mercied Coso in the second game, 10-1.
"We really hit the ball well," said coach Tim Syrek. "We were able to string hits together and got some timely defense when we needed it."
Anne Marie Hernandez had the big hits in the first game with a grand slam home run and 7 RBI. Alicia Klaudt scored four runs and Amy Crossley added three hits and three RBI.
Lindsey Crane pitched a complete game in the victory. She allowed nine earned runs.
The Vikings scored six times in the first inning of the second game and freshman Maggie Crossley pitched a gem scattering four hits.
Envy Arroyo had three RBI Julie Shipley added two RBI. Maggie Crossley and Alysia Sanchez each scored two runs.
After opening the season with three losses at the Glendale Invitational, the Vikings improved to 3-3.
Barstow travels to Cerro Coso Feb. 9 for a doubleheader.
