Vikings open conference with 9-0 win
COLTON - The Barstow softball team opened the conference season with a 9-0 win over San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday.
The Vikings scored six runs in the fifth inning and then added on three more in the sixth inning to mercy the Wolverines. Barstow improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in Inland Empire Association play.
Alyssa Zamora paced the offense with three hits and two RBI. Alyssa Avalos had a two run home run and Natalie Medina scored two runs in the win.
"We improved on our play from the weekend with a better approach at the plate," said coach Tim Syrek. "We were more aggressive at the plate, executed bunts and played good defense. That's a recipe for success."
Viv Gutierrez earned the win in the circle by allowing just three hits and striking out seven.
The Vikings will be home on Friday and Saturday hosting Santa Monica and Taft respectively.
