BARSTOW - The Barstow Vikings pushed the winning streak to eight games on Friday with an 8-3 win over Chaffey.
Barstow scored three in the first and four in the third to power to the win. The Vikings are now 11-3 on the season and 4-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
Alyssa Avalos and Cheyenne Armstrong paced the offense with key doubles. Avalos plated two runs in the first inning with her blast and Armstrong cleared the bases in the third with her three-run shot. Natalie Medina also added two hits and a double, while Kiki Hicks scored two runs and had a triple.
"We got some timely hitting and were able to take advantage of having runners on base," said coach Tim Syrek. "Chaffey is a tough team and we got a couple of breaks that made the difference. I am happy with how we are coming around on our hitting. The players are working hard on that part of the game."
Vivien Gutierrez earned the win striking out seven and giving up three runs.
"Viv really grinded it out on the mound," Syrek added. "Chaffey put some really good swings on us, but we got the outs when we needed them."
Barstow will play Wednesday at College of the Desert.
