Vikings extend streak to 10
BARSTOW - The Barstow Vikings won their 10th straight game on Friday.
The Vikings improved to 13-3 on the season and 6-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference with a five inning 10-2 win over San Bernadino Valley College.
Kiki Hicks and Cheyenne Armstrong led the offense as the Vikings scored three runs in the first and four in the second. Hicks scored four runs including a walk off to end the game. Her base hit to left center scooted past the centerfielder to score Armstrong. Hicks beat the throw to the plate to score the 10th run and end the game by mercy.
"Kiki really did a good job of getting the offense started," said coach Tim Syrek. "She put the ball on the ground and let her speed take over. She puts a lot of pressure on the defense."
The Wolverines scored two runs in the first inning, but sophomore Vivien Gutierrez shut them down the rest of the way. Gutierrez scattered five hits and finished with five strikeouts to earn the win.
"We were a little sloppy, but picked up the intensity as the game progressed," Syrek said. "We were able to get out of a big jam in the fourth when they loaded the bases. That was a big moment."
Armstrong had two hits and scored two runs. Alyssa Zambrano scored two runs and had an RBI, Natalie Medina added and run and RBI and Alyssa Zamora plated two runs.
Barstow will play next Friday against Mt. San Jacincto.
