Vikes cruise past LA Valley
Barstow, CA- The Vikings easily defeat fellow Western State Conference foe LA Valley 110-88. The Vikings second conference win in a row moves them to 2-1 in conference play and 9-10 overall. All 10 Vikings losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents. The next conference matchup for the Vikings is Wednesday the 25th at 5 p.m.
The Vikings quick start was due in large part to their utilization of full court pressure. Early mistakes were capitalized on by the Vikes as they pulled out to an early 21-7 lead with just over 12 minutes to go in the 1st half. Sophomore Jordan Rogers Garcia sparked the Vikes early including 3-point buckets on 3 consecutive possesions. Rogers Garcia would end the night with 20 points including 4-7 from behind the arc. Rogers Garcia also had a team high 5 steals.
Clay Evans proved to be the difference in the second half for the Vikings. Evans night included 21 points on on just 11 attempts and 5-6 from the three point line. Sophomore Christian Drayton piled up 8 rebounds in limited minutes.
Vikings Coach Gerry Wright said after the game, "We focused on winning every possesion, not the scoreboard. We won more than we lost tonight, we'll keep getting better."
