Vikings beat #11 Citrus, Claim a share of Conference Title
Barstow, CA- The Barstow Community College Men's basketball team defeated #11 ranked and conference front runner Citrus College 77-74. The win guarentees a share of the Western States-East Division Conference title. The first conference title in several years for BCC teams and the first for fourth year Coach Gerry Wright.
The Vikes led the majority of the game and controlled what is normally a high scoring Citrus team. The Vikings lead by four at the half and were up by as much as 16 with less than 5 minutes to go. Citrus applied full court pressure and tied the game with 1:30 on the clock.
Sophomore Jordan Rogers-Garcia led all Vikings with 19 points including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Christian Drayton added to his state leading rebound totals with 16, Drayton also compiled 5 blocked shots and 13 points on the night. Freshman Will Pierce had 10 points including a dunk off of a stolen inbound pass that all but sealed the deal for the Vikings.
Coach Wright said after the game, "I'm proud of my guys, we've come a long way this year. We've matured and we've learned how to win. I'd love a shot to play some of the teams that got us earlier in the year." Coach Wright may just get his wish, the Vikings should be a lock to earn a post-season bid and may even host a playoff game with the opportunity for revenge. Playoff teams will be announced on February 20th. l
